Barging into Space

Earlier today I did a post about Exhumers and the changes from the patch.  I went ahead and worked up some builds for the Mining Barges (Barges) as well.  The Barges have much lower EHP but I was very surprised to see the output is very similar  or higher to equivalent Exhumer builds.  Combined with the ability to insure on a T1 level and Barges might just end up being the ship of choice for mining in high sec.  For now I'll just list the builds.


The Procurer is our first ship up and it is surprisingly strong now.  The built in tank and medium slots means mining upgrades work very well on this ship.  The resists are low but for high sec work this baby is looking really strong.  If I had to pick one ship to use for mining in high sec I think the Procurer will be that choice.

Next up is the Retriever.  High ore storage, mediocre tank and decent yield.  If you want a ship to AFK mine I'd go with the Mackinaw due to higher EHP, however if T2 isn't in your budget then the Retriever is still a golden pick.

Finally we have the Covetor which seems to be the loser in all of the changes.  While it has nearly Hulk like yield the tank is so pitiful I'm not sure how often this ship should be undocked.  Unable to stand up to a high-sec gank, unable to handle null sec rats, and unable to mount a decent tank without dropping the yield below the other ships.  All in all I'd say the Covetor will soon be the least used ship in the game.

    basic idea is the low hanging fruit theory of tanking: tank just enough to your neighbours look more tasty to griefers in their catalysts. Tank just enough because if they really want to go after you and know you're tanked to the gills, they'll simply wardec you.

    so it's a balancing act of tanking proper and realizing a wardec is only a local smack away
